Egret Marsh Stormwater Treatment Facility Tour

Updated: Aug 14, 2019

Thanks to Indian River County Utilities for providing us a tour last Tuesday of the Egret Marsh Stormwater Treatment Facility.

The self-contained facility treats up to 10 million gallons per day of canal water for sediments and nutrient pollution.

Nutrients are removed using an “algal scrubber” before the treated stormwater is discharged to a series of finishing ponds prior to release into the Lateral C Canal.

Nutrient-laden algae are then harvested and removed from the watershed.
